Performing Magic on the High Seas: My Cruise Ship Experience
Luke Osey performing in The Purple Rabbit for P&O Australia
Earlier this year and last year, I had the pleasure of performing aboard P&O Australia’s Pacific Explorer as part of The Purple Rabbit — a show filled with comedy, variety, and, of course, plenty of magic. Performing on a cruise ship is unlike any other kind of show. Instead of a theatre in Edinburgh or a wedding venue in Scotland, the stage is the middle of the ocean, with audiences made up of travellers from all over the world. The swaying stage waas certainly something to get used to.
The Atmosphere on Board
One of the things I love most about cruise ship shows is the unique energy. People are on holiday, they are primed to be entertained. Magic really thrives in that environment. Let’s not forget, the more they drink, the better the magic gets.
Magic Without Borders
As an English magician based in Scotland, most of my work is here in Edinburgh and across the UK, but I am so thankful to be able to take my magic to an international stage. I have gotten to see so many places around the world I thought I’d never visit, such as New Zealand and Tasmania.
What’s Next?
I’m excited to announce that my next cruise booking is with P&O Cruises in the Caribbean this November. This time, I’ll be taking to the stage with my solo comedy magic shows, Professional Idiot and Unreal.
On land, I will be back again at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with my solo show The Magic Hangover and our ensemble show 1 Hour of Insane Magic
Bringing the Magic Home
Of course, while I love these international opportunities, the heart of my work is still here in Edinburgh and across the U.K.. Whether it’s a corporate event, or a private party, I bring the same passion and energy that I bring to audiences on the high seas.
If you’re planning an event and want to make it unforgettable, get in touch — I’d love to bring a touch of cruise-ship style magic to your night.
