Top 5 MUST-SEE Shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2026

This will be my 7th time visiting the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It’s fair to say I’ve seen a LOT of shows. Here, I’ve compiled a list of 5 must-see shows.

Now of course, I can’t say these are the best shows, as it’s completely subjective what the best shows are!

However, when a friend asks me for my recommendations, this is the list I send to them.

With that being said, let’s get onto the list!

1. 1 Hour of Insane Magic

Venue: Gilded Balloon Teviot - The Debating Hall

Time: 17:30

Dates: 5th - 30th August 2026

Tickets:

A returning hit that continues to grow year after year, 1 Hour of Insane Magic has firmly established itself as one of the most in-demand magic shows on the touring circuit.

After a huge Adelaide Fringe 2026 - including sold-out crowds, over 4,500 audience members, and becoming the third highest-rated show of the entire festival - the show arrives in Edinburgh bigger, sharper, and more ambitious than ever.

Blending fast-paced magic, audience interaction, and genuinely jaw-dropping moments, this is a show built for large rooms and big reactions. With a prime slot in Teviot’s Debating Hall, it’s set to be one of the major magic events of the Fringe this year.

Now sure, I might be a little biased as I am in this show. But this show has been 3 years of our life, come see for yourself why we are “truly a global phenomenon”.

2. Garry Starr: Classic Penguins

Venue: Grand at Pleasance Courtyard

Time: 21:20

Dates: 5th - 30th August 2026

Tickets:

Chaos, comedy, and literary nonsense collide in Garry Starr: Classic Penguins, a wildly physical parody from award-winning clown and comedian Garry Starr. Expect absurd attempts to “save literature” as Starr tears through iconic Penguin classics with his trademark mix of nudity, slapstick, and audience interaction. One of the funniest and most unpredictable comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe for fans of outrageous late-night comedy.

3. Headline Comedy

Venue: Just The Atomic Room at Just The Tonic Nucleus

Time: 22:15

Dates: 6th - 30th August

Tickets:

If you’re looking for a guaranteed laugh at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 1 Hour of Headline Comedy delivers a packed showcase of top-tier stand-up from some of the funniest acts at this year’s festival. Featuring razor-sharp comedy ventriloquism from Max Fulham, surreal festival favourite Josh Glanc, fringe star Amy Matthews, and acclaimed Scottish comic Gareth Waugh, this fast-paced Fringe comedy show is packed with huge laughs, crowd work, and standout performances. A perfect choice for anyone searching for the best stand-up comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe.

4. Sophie’s Surprise 29th

Venue: The Beauty at Underbelly’s Circus Hub on the Meadows

Time: 21:45

Dates: 7th - 29th August 2026

Tickets:

https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/sophie-s-surprise-29th

Part theatre, part comedy meltdown, Sophie’s Surprise 29th turns an awkward birthday party into a brilliantly chaotic Fringe experience. Blending sharp writing, cringe humour, and emotional honesty, this fast-rising Edinburgh Fringe show explores friendship, expectations, and the panic of getting older. A clever pick for audiences looking for character-driven comedy with heart.

5. Charlie Caper - Magical

Venue: Liquid Room Warehouse at PBH's Free Fringe @ Liquid Room

Time: 18:30

Dates: 8th - 30th August 2026

Tickets:

Unticketed/free

International magic champion Charlie Caper brings mind-blowing sleight of hand and inventive illusions to the Fringe with Charlie Caper: Magical. Combining clever technology, visual magic, and charming storytelling, this family-friendly magic show delivers polished entertainment that appeals to both adults and younger audiences. One of the top magic shows to see at the Edinburgh Fringe this year.

And that concludes our list!

There are so many more that I would love to add to the list. Look through the programme for yourself to see a show that will suit you the best!
