Why Magic might be the Perfect Entertainment for your Halloween Party
Luke Osey performing at the Halloween TaDa Cabaret at Three Sisters, Edinburgh. October, 2022
A few of years ago, I had a very unusual gig in Edinburgh — one I’ll never forget. Jack Daniel’s invited me to visit bars across the city that stocked their drinks. My job? To perform magic for customers, hand out free drinks vouchers, and create an unforgettable Halloween atmosphere.
A Victorian Magician for the Night
Now, anyone who knows me knows that I’m not normally a “costume magician.” But this was Halloween, so I made an exception. Dressed head-to-toe in a Victorian magician outfit (complete with an assistant in somewhat matching costume), I spent the night amazing people with close-up magic.
The reactions were priceless. Guests were astonished by the magic, and then even more shocked when we followed it up with a free drink on the house. A videographer was there to captute all the moments, to utilise for their social media.
Magic on Stage at Halloween
Halloween isn’t always about bar takeovers — I’ve also performed on stage for themed cabaret shows. At one event, TaDa, a Halloween special of a regular night run by my friend and fellow magician Elliot Bibby, we gave our existing acts a seasonal twist. With a few clever adjustments, our routines took on a spookier edge that fit the atmosphere perfectly — without ever being too scary.
Halloween Entertainment That Isn’t Too Frightening
Halloween parties don’t always need jump scares or horror-mazes. Sometimes, the best entertainment is something interactive and fun that still captures the spirit of the season. That’s where magic shines:
It’s fun and mysterious without being terrifying.
It fits in whether you’re planning a bar event, a corporate gathering, or a private party.
It leaves guests with stories they’ll share long after the night is over.
